According to reports, eight children died of starvation and thirst in Mithi Civil Hospital and one in Civil Hospital Umerkot yesterday while another on the way to hospital. 50 other children are under medical assistance in Mithi’s hospital, most of whom are said to be in extremely critical condition. Sources said that the resources in Mithi’s hospital are falling short and children are being referred to hospitals in Hyderabad. The drought has claimed lives of nearly 500 people including more than 300 infant children over the past three years. Only 21 people have fallen prey to starvation in the last two days. Drought dominated the discussions at Sindh Assembly yesterday however, the last few previous sessions had been tainted by the blame game between Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) lawmakers over who is responsible for the causalities. -
